Smoky-violet, lupine-like flowers are held atop erect shrub-like plants with charcoal stems and gray-green foliage. The flowers mature into inflated seed pods which turn dark in color and add interest to the garden. The flowers and seed pods are great in fresh and dried arrangements. A long-lived perennial native to the Eastern U.S.
