This improved selection was chosen for its vivid, deep, ruby-red foliage in winter. In spring, the evergreen cabbage-like leaves turn a dark glossy green and are topped by crimson flowers that are borne on thick stems just above the foliage. Plants are best appreciated in mass plantings in the moist shade garden.
