FENNEL, Bronze

Wonderfully decorative, lacy, bronze-red foliage has an intense anise-like flavor. The leaves are best used fresh to flavor salads and fish, and when used in hot dishes should be added at the very last moment. Also used as a garnish because of its bronze foliage color. Large, yellow, umbel flower heads bloom in summer. Seeds can either be used whole or ground. It is wise to deadhead the flowers if you aren't going to use the seeds or you will spend a lot of time weeding the seedlings that will sprout! Plants prefer moist, well-drained soil and full sun.
