FENNEL, Sweet

Fine textured, green leaves have an anise-like flavor and are often used fresh to flavor dishes such as fish and salads. Large, yellow, umbel flower heads bloom in summer. The seeds can be harvested and used whole or ground. It is wise to deadhead the flowers if you aren't going to use the seeds or you will spend a lot of time weeding the seedlings that will sprout. Plants prefer moist, well-drained soil and full sun.
