MERTENSIA virginica

This native wildflower can be found growing in moist, rich soils, often along floodplains. Smooth, oval, blue-green leaves are stunning, eclipsed only by gorgeous pink flower buds that open to baby blue trumpets in March and April. Plants emerge early in spring, and will die back to the ground in mid-summer.
